Paclobutrazol residues in the fruits of mango cultivars.

The residual effects of paclobutrazol were investigated in 1996-97 after application in September and October 1994 and 1995. Paclobutrazol was applied as a soil drench under the trees of mango cultivars Dashehari, Langra, Chausa and Fazri. The fruits and seeds contained lower levels of paclobutrazol than internationally accepted standards (0.5 mg/kg fruit). Evidence was also produced for an interaction between gibberellin and paclobutrazol in lettuce hypocotyl bioassays and benzyladenine and paclobutrazol in radish cotyledon enlargement tests which showed that paclobutrazol counteracts gibberellin activity in tissues and also interferes with gibberellin applications. Paclobutrazol also stimulated radish cotyledon enlargement at low concentrations without counteracting benzyladenine activity.
